Surgery is necessary where a deformed or damaged nail is causing infection and pain in the toe. This infection can spread quickly and can be cured by antibiotics. What is Metatarsalgia?

Metatarsalgia is a condition where there is pain in the area of the ball of the foot. The foot has two different arches. The long longitudinal arch which goes from the heel to the ball, and the metatarsal arch which goes from the big toe to the small toe at the level of the ball of the foot. What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Custom orthotics can help alleviate many foot problems; however, they are most commonly used for plantar fasciitis. Plantar fascia is a flat fibrous tissue that runs from the ball of the foot to the heel bone. It looks similar to fiberglass packaging tape. Its ability to stretch is limited. Its role is to keep the foot from flattening too much and to support the foot. When a foot does flatten too much or pronates, there is abnormal pressure placed on the plantar fascia resulting in pain and inflammation.

When abnormal pressure is placed on the plantar fascia, the band pulls away from the insertion point on the heel. It is almost like a having a small fracture in that area. Inflammation begins as the body responds and tries to repair the area. The body puts down calcium in order to repair the tear.

The problem comes because of the pressure that is put on the plantar fascia. This band will pull away from it's insertion on the heel, and acts almost like a very small fracture. The body reacts to this with inflammation, and it will begin to lay down calcium to repair the small tear. After time this continuous laying down of calcium can cause a heel spur to form. It is not the spur itself that causes this pain, but the process that is going on.

How do custom orthotics help?

By using custom orthotics, pressure will be taken off the foot, the arch will be supported, necessary repair to the plantar fascia can occur, and inflammation in that area will decrease.

The band that connects the heel bone to the ball of the foot is called the plantar fascia. It is a flat fibrous tissue and looks like packing tape. It is limited in its ability to stretch. The purpose of the plantar fascia is to assist in supporting the foot and to avoid the foot from flattening too much. Pain and inflammation in the foot can be caused when there is abnormal pressure put on the plantar fascia, usually caused by pronation or the foot flattening too much. When pain does occur, the pain location is the bottom inside part where the arch begins. Sometimes the pain can even spread as far as the the metatarsal area, making it almost unbearable for the person. This pain occurs due to pressure being placed on the plantar fascia.

The continuous placing of calcium can create a heel spur. The heel spur does not cause the pain, but rather, the process that is taking place. The pain is usually located where the arch begins on the bottom inside of the foot. The pain can spread through the arch and on to the metatarsal area and can be almost unbearable.

Does Vicks Vaporub Cure Toenail Fungus?

You have most likely happened upon at least one forum or page discussing the possibility of using Vicks Vapor Rub for toenail fungus in your quest for a good product that really works. I of course did as well, but I would like to discuss whether or not it is a legitimate home remedy for toenail fungus and let you know what I have learned about it.

When I decided I needed to get my toenail fungus problem under control, Vicks Vapor Rub for Toenail Fungus was the first product decided to try. I thought that it would be a good idea because I knew that I could get it at any drug store, and I figured it would not be hard to apply each day. After using it for a few weeks, I was already starting to think that it might not be a miracle product after all. I end up completely stopping its use after 6 weeks because I didn't see any major improvements at all.

There are apparently people who have had some form of success with Vicks Vapor Rub for toenail fungus, but I am not completely convinced that those people actually use ONLY Vicks or if they also used something else with it that could lead them to see more success with it. All I was personally able to achieve through using it for over a month and a half was a slightly different color of toenail, as well as somewhat softer toes. I don't feel like that's the success I was looking for.

I talked to my doctor about it, and he told me that Vicks is not a product that has any ability whatsoever to kill fungus, and I would therefore not be able to have success with vicks for toenail fungus. What it can do is smother the fungus a little bit and make your toenails seem like they might be improving because they are softer. However, the end result is that your toenails will really not have any less fungus, although they might look a little better after several weeks of use. The changes are not permanent.

I would not recommend to anyone that they use Vicks Vapor Rub to cure toenail fungus. That includes any of my friends, or anyone I might meet for that matter. For most people with a toenail fungus problem, it's hard enough just dealing with the ugly toes. Going through the disappointment of working so hard to get a product to work and then not seeing any results can be very hard.

I have since found several products that are actually approved by doctors as legitimate options for eliminating toenail fungus. I know they work, and I have seen some real results using them. No matter what you find online, just remember that a product with a money-back guarantee is probably the most legitimate option available. There are plenty of products that do not have money back guarantees, and if you use them you will most likely be disappointed that you did. - 30519
